Service

  • "There is a serious need for the charity that gives attention to those who are unnoticed, hope to those who are discouraged, aid to those who are afflicted.True charity is love in action. The need for charity is everywhere." (Charity Never Faileth, General Conference 2010, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "I have in mind the charity that impels us to be sympathetic, compassionate, merciful, not only in times of sickness and affliction and distress but also in times of weakness or error on the part of others." (Charity Never Faileth, General Conference 2010, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "Our Savior gave Himself in unselfish service. He taught that each of us should follow Him by denying ourselves of selfish interests in order to serve others." (Unselfish Service, General Conference 2009, Dallin H. Oaks)
  • "Latter-day Saints are uniquely committed to sacrifice. In partaking of the sacrament each week, we witness our commitment to serve the Lord and our fellowmen. In sacred temple ceremonies we covenant to sacrifice and consecrate our time and talents for the welfare of others." (Unselfish Service, General Conference 2009, Dallin H. Oaks)
  • "Through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, our natures can be changed. Then our power to carry burdens can be increased more than enough to compensate for the increased service we will be asked to give." (O Ye That Embark, General Conference 2008, Henry B. Eyring)
  • "I know that the promise of angels to bear us up is real. You might want to bring to memory the assurance of Elisha to his frightened servant. That assurance is ours when we feel close to being overwhelmed in our service." (O Ye That Embark, General Conference 2008, Henry B. Eyring)
  • "The Savior taught His disciples, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” I believe the Savior is telling us that unless we lose ourselves in service to others, there is little purpose to our own lives. Those who live only for themselves eventually shrivel up and figuratively lose their lives, while those who lose themselves in service to others grow and flourish—and in effect save their lives." (What Have I Done of Someone Today?, General Conference 2009, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "My brothers and sisters, we are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness—be they family members, friends, acquaintances, or strangers. We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us." (What Have I Done for Someone Today?, General Conference 2009, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "It is only when we love God and Christ with all of our hearts, souls, and minds that we are able to share this love with our neighbors through acts of kindness and service—the way that the Savior would love and serve all of us if He were among us today. When this pure love of Christ—or charity—envelops us, we think, feel, and act more like Heavenly Father and Jesus would think, feel, and act. Our motivation and heartfelt desire are like unto that of the Savior." (Finding Joy through Loving Service, General Conference 2011, M. Russell Ballard)
  • "Another way we can serve Heavenly Father’s children is through missionary service—not only as full-time missionaries but also as friends and neighbors. The future growth of the Church will not happen through just knocking on strangers’ doors. It will happen when the members, along with our missionaries, filled with the love of God and Christ discern needs and respond to those needs in the spirit of charitable service." (Finding Joy Through Loving Service, General Conference 2011, M. Russell Ballard)
Summary:
I have had a hard time with service lately. It's one of those things that you just have to do and you should be doing it with a smile on your face. Service is very important in my life because I receive service daily from others but I don't always give service daily. I have been working on doing service this semester and I have found that I am happier when I do service for others. My days just seem to go smoother and I see things in a different light. Service is something that I would recommend to others as something they should do everyday of their lives.
