Temple Attendance

  • "Why are so many willing to give so much in order to receive the blessings of the temple? Those who understand the eternal blessings which come from the temple know that no sacrifice is too great, no price too heavy, no struggle too difficult in order to receive those blessings. There are never too many miles to travel, too many obstacles to overcome, or too much discomfort to endure. They understand that the saving ordinances received in the temple that permit us to someday return to our Heavenly Father in an eternal family relationship and to be endowed with blessings and power from on high are worth every sacrifice and every effort." (The Holy Temple-a Beacon to the World, General Conference 2011, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "If you have not yet been to the temple or if you have been but currently do not qualify for a recommend, there is no more important goal for you to work toward than being worthy to go to the temple. Your sacrifice may be bringing your life into compliance with what is required to receive a recommend, perhaps by forsaking long-held habits which disqualify you. It may be having the faith and the discipline to pay your tithing. Whatever it is, qualify to enter the temple of God. Secure a temple recommend and regard it as a precious possession, for such it is."  (The Holy Temple-a Beacon to the World, General Conference 2011, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "Now, my young friends who are in your teenage years, always have the temple in your sights. Do nothing which will keep you from entering its doors and partaking of the sacred and eternal blessings there. I commend those of you who already go to the temple regularly to perform baptisms for the dead, arising in the very early hours of the morning so you can participate in such baptisms before school begins. I can think of no better way to start a day."  (The Holy Temple-a Beacon to the World, General Conference 2011, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "Each one stands as a beacon to the world, an expression of our testimony that God, our Eternal Father, lives, that He desires to bless us and, indeed, to bless His sons and daughters of all generations. Each of our temples is an expression of our testimony that life beyond the grave is as real and as certain as is our life here on earth."  (The Holy Temple-a Beacon to the World, General Conference 2011, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "If you are now ready to receive the ordinances of the temple, prepare carefully for that crowning event. Before entering the temple, you will be interviewed by your bishop and stake president for your temple recommend. Be honest and candid with them. That interview is not a test to be passed but an important step to confirm that you have the maturity and spirituality to receive the supernal ordinances and make and keep the edifying covenants offered in the house of the Lord. Personal worthiness is an essential requirement to enjoy the blessings of the temple. Anyone foolish enough to enter the temple unworthily will receive condemnation." (Receive the Temple Blessings, General Conference 2009, Richard G. Scott)
  • "Each member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is blessed to live in a time when the Lord has inspired His prophets to provide significantly increased accessibility to the holy temples. With careful planning and some sacrifice, the majority of the members of the Church can receive the ordinances of the temple for themselves and for their ancestors and be blessed by the covenants made therein." (Temple Worship: The Source of Strength and Power in Times of Need, General Conference 2009, Richard G. Scott)
  • "What I am trying to teach is that when we keep the temple covenants we have made and when we live righteously in order to maintain the blessings promised by those ordinances, then come what may, we have no reason to worry or to feel despondent" (Temple Worship: The Source of Strength and Power in Times of Need, General Conference 2009, Richard G. Scott)
  • "Saints of all ages have had temples in one form or another. There is evidence that temple worship was customary from Adam to Noah and that after the Flood the holy priesthood was continued; therefore, we have every reason to believe the ordinances of the temple were available to those entitled to receive them." (Personal Temple Worship, General Conference 1993, David B. Haight)
  • "Regular temple attendance is one of the simplest ways you can bless those who are waiting in the spirit world. If you live near a temple, partake of the opportunity to go often and regularly. If you live some distance from a temple, plan excursions so that you, too, might be uplifted and edified through this most satisfying and much-needed labor of love." (Personal Temple Worship, General Conference 1993, David B. Haight)
  • "It is a place of peace, solitude, and inspiration. Regular attendance will enrich your life with greater purpose." (Receive the Temple Blessings, General Conference 2009, Richard G. Scott)
Summary:
Temple attendance is something that is very hard for me to do. When I lived in Wyoming the closest temple we had was the Ogden temple. If we wanted to see the temple we had to plan a three day trip to go.  Those trips showed me the sacrifice that people have to make to attend the temple regularly. Now that I live in Rexburg I find that I have a hard time getting to the temple when it's just up the street! This semester I tried harder to go every Friday and I was much happier and I was being blessed daily for going just once a week.
