Choices/Agency

  • "As I've contemplated the various aspects of choice, I've put them into three categories: First, the right of choice; Second, the responsibility of choice; Third, the results of choice. I call these the three R's of choice. May we be filled with gratitude for the right of choice, accept the responsibility of choice, and ever be conscious of the results of choice." (The Three R's of Choice, General Conference 2010, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "Each of us has come to this earth with all the tools necessary to make correct choice. The prophet Mormon tells us, "The Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil." (The Three R's of Choice, General Conference 2010, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "Decisions are constantly before us. To make them wisely, courage is needed - the courage to say no, the courage to say yes. Decisions do determine destiny. I plead with you to make a determination right here, right now, not to deviate from the path which will lead to our goal: eternal life with our Father in Heaven. Along that straight and true path there are other goals: missionary service, temple marriage, Church activity, scripture study pray, temple work. There are countless worthy goals to reach as we travel through life. Needed is our commitment to reach them." (The Three R's of Choice, General Conference 2010, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "No temptation, no pressure, no enticing can overcome us unless we allow such. If we make the wrong choice, we have no one to blame but ourselves." (The Three R's of Choice, General Conference 2010, Thomas S. Monson)
  • "Our agency—our ability to choose and act for ourselves—was an essential element of this plan. Without agency we would be unable to make right choices and progress. Yet with agency we could make wrong choices, commit sin, and lose the opportunity to be with Heavenly Father again. For this reason a Savior would be provided to suffer for our sins and redeem us if we would repent. By His infinite Atonement, He brought about “the plan of mercy, to appease the demands of justice.” (Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life, General Conference 2010, Robert D. Hales)
  • "But think of it: in our premortal state we chose to follow the Savior Jesus Christ! And because we did, we were allowed to come to earth. I testify that by making the same choice to follow the Savior now, while we are here on earth, we will obtain an even greater blessing in the eternities. But let it be known: we must continue to choose to follow the Savior. Eternity is at stake, and our wise use of agency and our actions are essential that we might have eternal life." (Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life, General Conference 2010, Robert D. Hales)
  • "Contrary to the world’s secular teaching, the scriptures teach us that we do have agency, and our righteous exercise of agency always makes a difference in the opportunities we have and our ability to act upon them and progress eternally." (Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life, General Conference 2010, Robert D. Hales)
  • "Agency was manifested in the Council in Heaven as we chose to follow our Heavenly Father’s plan and come to mortality for this probationary period. Agency allows us to be tested and tried to see whether or not we will endure to the end and return to our Heavenly Father with honor. Agency is the catalyst that leads us to express our inward spiritual desires in outward Christlike behavior. Agency permits us to make faithful, obedient choices that strengthen us so that we can lift and strengthen others. Agency used righteously allows light to dispel the darkness and enables us to live with joy and happiness in the present, look with faith to the future, even into the eternities, and not dwell on the things of the past. Our use of agency determines who we are and what we will be." (To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessings of Agency, General Conference 2009, Robert D. Hales)
  • "To all who desire to enjoy the supernal blessings of agency, I testify that agency is strengthened by our faith and obedience. Agency leads us to act: to seek that we may find, to ask that we may receive guidance from the Spirit, to knock on that door that leads to spiritual light and ultimately salvation. " (To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessings of Agency, General Conference 2009, Robert D. Hales)
  • "Remember our agency is not only for us. We have the responsibility to use it in behalf of others, to lift and strengthen others in their trials and tribulations. Some of our brothers and sisters have lost the full use of their agency through unrighteous choices. Without exposing ourselves to temptation, we can and should invite others to receive the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through friendship and love, we may lead them along the path of obedience and encourage them to use their agency to make the right choices once again." (To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessings of Agency, General Conference 2009, Robert D. Hales)
Summary:
Agency is very important to me because it allows me to decide how I will live my life and if I go to the Celestial Kingdom or not. This past very I've had to make many choices in my life and I wondered if they were the right choices or if they were wrong. I realized they were the right choices because they brought me closer to the Lord. There are many more decisions I have to make in my life and knowing how to make the right ones and how to stick with those choices makes the future brighter for me. Agency when used for the good can make my life so much better and a lot easier.
