Repentance

  • “The temptation to delay repentance comes not only at the end of the world as suggested by those scriptures. That temptation seems to have been nearly constant since the beginning of time and goes on throughout our lives.” (Do Not Delay, General Conference 1999, Henry B. Eyring)
  • “I have been taught the gospel. I have made covenants and yet I go on in disobedience or neglect, despite the emptiness we know that brings them. The choice to repent or to remain a prisoner of sin is their own.” (Do Not Delay, General Conference 1999, Henry B. Eyring)
  •  “He knows that we can never be truly happy unless we have hope in this life and then realization, in the next, of eternal life. It is the greatest of all the gifts of god. It is to live in families forever with our heavenly father and with Jesus Christ and to have eternal increase. Satan wants us to be miserable as he is.” (Do Not Delay, General Conference 1999, Henry B. Eyring)
  •  “Some suppose that they were present and cannot overcome what they feel are inborn temptations toward the impure and unnatural. Not so! Remember, God is our Heavenly Father. Paul Promised that “God….will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” You can, if you will, break the habits and conquer an addiction and come away from that which is not worthy of any member of the church.” (Cleansing the Inner Vessel, General Conference 2010, Boyd K. Packer)
  •  “The ultimate purpose of every teaching, every activity in the church is that parents and their children are happy at home, sealed in an eternal marriage and linked to their generations.” (Cleansing the Inner Vessel, General Conference 2010, Boyd K. Packer)
  • "I know of no more beautiful and consoling words in all of revelation than these: "Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more.(Doctrine and Covenants 58:42)" (Cleansing the Inner Vessel, General Conference 2010, Boyd K. Packer)
  • "Consecration therefore means repentance. Stubbornness, rebellion, and rationalization must be abandoned, and in their place submission, a desire for correction, and acceptance of all that the Lord may require." (Reflections on a Consecrated Life, General Conference 2010, D. Todd Christofferson)
  • "Sin is the willful transgression of divine law. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the gift of God to His children to correct and overcome the consequences of sin. God loves all of His children, and He will never cease to love and to hope for us." (Point of Safe Return, General Conference 2007, Dieter F. Uchtdorf)
  • President David O. McKay said, “Every principle and ordinance of the gospel of Jesus Christ is significant and important … , but there is none more essential to the salvation of the human family than the divine and eternally operative principle [of] repentance” (Point of Safe Return, General Conference 2007, Dieter F. Uchtdorf)
  • "True repentance brings us back to doing what is right. To truly repent we must recognize our sins and feel remorse, or godly sorrow, and confess those sins to God. If our sins are serious, we must also confess them to our authorized priesthood leader. We need to ask God for forgiveness and do all we can to correct whatever harm our actions may have caused." (Point of Safe Return, General Conference 2007, Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Summary:
Repentance is something that I have had to work at these past two semesters. Repentance I realized can be done at all times. You can repent from any sins you have committed. Somethings in my life I didn't realize were bad until I came to BYU and found that by doing certain things I was harming myself and others around me. The atonement has always been available to me but it didn't dawn on me until I took this class. I am very grateful for the Atonement and the suffering that Jesus had to go through for our sins. I love the savior very much for all that he has done for me and I now know that repentance is a very hard thing but also very rewarding thing.
